Weekly Reflection 2
Another week of senior project has flown by and I have had an amazing time! I began the week with a few work days and random trips around the area. Though this was not awful, I was feeling a little bored of taking photo after photo of endless streams and lakes in New Hampshire. This made my photoshoot with Eliza that much more exciting. The two of us were so thrilled to bring our ideas to work, the week flew by and suddenly the day to shoot arrived. I found myself having a spectacular time during the photoshoot, working on different poses and trying new backgrounds. I had never tried anything like this before, learning what worked and how to use the camera to my best ability. I have to say, this photoshoot and going to Quechee Gorge were easily my favorite activities of this project.
In addition, I was finally able to print my photos this week and bring them to life! Part of the reason I love this style of photography is the patience required to see quality results. Rather than just taking a photo on my phone and quickly moving on, I have to focus on every step of the developing process to make sure my photos are up to my standards. Returning to the dark room was absolutely wonderful. It took me quite some time and quite a few pieces of printing paper to figure out the right lighting, focus, and chemical timing I need to get the correct results. Once I had it down, I was flying through my negatives with so much excitement.
I feel each of my goals have officially been achieved this week as I completed the photoshoot. I have tried many styles of photography and discovered that landscape and portrait photos are what I prefer to take. Working with the formal lighting and background in the portrait studio really showed me how clear and professional my photos can be. In addition, driving all around and hiking to odd locations to find the perfect angle of a landscape shot showed me that to get that killer photo, you must work for it. I look forward to piecing together my final presentation, hopefully a book or framing my favorite pieces.
