So it Begins...
Woohoo! Senior project has begun! I began my first day researching famous black and white photographers as I know little about any. I first discovered Ansel Adams, a landscape photographer from the 20th century. Though his work was inspiring and absolutely beautiful, they felt out of reach as most photos were of glorious nature scenes out West. I continued to look for other photographers. I learned about Henry Cartier-Bresson as well as Viviane Maier. Those two really struck me. Henry’s book, America in Passing, showed one image in particular I really hope to recreate:
Finally, I researched Viviane Maier. Viviane was a fascinating person as she only became famous after her death when someone found her old rolls of film. Most of her photographs are of regular people out on the street. I found them realistic, something I could picture myself doing. I watched a documentary created about her, Finding Vivian Maier, answering many of my questions about her interesting self. Later, I worked with my mentor Kate in the art studio where she re-taught me the process of black and white photography. From the camera to the dark room, I am prepared to go out tomorrow and take some practice photos before my field trips later this week!
