Eliza Monroe

The day is finally here, the Marilyn Monroe shoot! Eliza and I have been so excited to finally get this project started! Our first stop was our friend's room as she has a great mirror setup, vintage rug, and simple bed decor. We began taking photos in the mirror, some were of her looking into the camera and others had her putting on lipgloss. We then moved to the rug and later the bed for different poses. Additionally, we had plenty of outfit changes that brought excitement and gave us new ideas.

The two of us moved to the downstairs area where we used a plain wall for portraits and full body looks. I had Eliza stand on the deck, lay on the couch, and try different facial expressions in each photo. The two of us really felt inspired from the brainstorm we had a few days prior, we migrated to the portrait studio in the art building on campus. There, Eliza completed a couple outfit changes and we tried to recreate a few of the photos we had pulled together from Monroe as well as try out some props we found around the building to use.

Each of the images above are not the final products, they are the test pictures I took on my phone to show Eliza the angles I was working from. After about three hours of shooting, we felt satisfied. I was overjoyed to work quickly and see the product of our work so right after lunch, I headed straight to the developing room to prepare my negatives.

I had to remain patient in order to not damage the film, I worked cautiously and rapidly so I could have all the negatives needed in order to begin the formal printing process tomorrow. I plan on working with my mentor Kate tomorrow to re-learn this process as I haven't done it in three years. I am absolutely thrilled to finally see my work come to life! Check out tomorrow's blog for an update!
